The Responses of Patients according to the Nursing Communication




Abstract
A study of the responses of hospitalized patients from one hospital was carried out from the 11th through the 13th of September, 1978.
Data for the study was collected through questionaire survey on a randomly selected Sample. chi-square tests were performed to confirm the significant differences at the 0.5 level. The purpose of the study was to identify general characteristics of patients in response to nurses communication in paractice.
The findings are follows.
A) The majority of respondents were men, in their twenties (20¡­29 years: 37.8%). Their education was predominantly in the level of middle and high school as 26.5%, 29.6%, Most of the respondents lived in the metropolitan area (40.3%). All members of the sample were experiencing their first hospitalization. Most of the respondents were admitted to 3rd degree rooms and the majority had been hospitalized for more than one month.
B) Higher degree of satisfaction (4.5 over) was revealed in the responses of the patients to the nursing communication, when the patients desire to know about his treatment was fulfilled by explanation.
C) The degree of satisfaction of the patients by their general Characteristics to the nursing communication, was significant at the 0.5 level for some out of groups A, B, C, D, E.
With the above results, even if the basic nursing communication was to perform a nursing activity only, patients accepted differently by their back ground.
In cases where the communication level developed to the point of a therapeutic relationship, paietnt¢¥s general characteristics may be considered as an important factor in the nursing communication with the patient.
